In conclusion, we have tried to highlight and clarify the many problems inherent in managed care health plans, and champion the concept that allowing individuals maximum opportunity to spend their health care dollars directly--through plans such as MSAs -- will lead to more affordable and superior health care.
Managed care plans require individuals to, in essence, pre-pay for care they may not need or use, and often are denied access to care they do need or believe they need.
At this point, the options available to individuals are far from ideal. Understanding them, however, is essential. Making use of your opportunities to freely choose your physician, and working with your physician to fight for your interests, over those of an insurance provider, has never been more important.
